My first Yoga Challenge

One Little Note- My first Yoga Challenge / Ocean

This past January, I finally did it. I completed (to the best of my ability) a month long Yoga with Adriene challenge. This is a practice I have shied away from in the past because I simply never felt I could do it. Well, I was wrong. I did it and I have continued challenging myself consistently for the last 3 months as part of my wellness journey.

I began thinking about aging and my health most seriously last May (7 months prior to taking my first Yoga step). I began implementing movement and ushering an overall shift in mindset. Needless to say, it has been a gradual process of self-awareness. I am not going to write about how impactful and life changing the practice of Yoga is because it’s been well documented by experts. I will however, share how this process for me took place.

Over the years, I have faced personal challenges, like most of us, that have shaken me to my core. As a woman, a mother, a nurse and now the daughter of an aging (albeit beautiful, brilliant and strong) Cuban woman, my first thoughts have always been focused on the care of others and then myself. A choice I have made with joy, but at this moment in time, I am learning that both can take place simultaneously. In other words, because I have children, patients, and family who need me does not mean I cannot carve time for my self-care. Most importantly, I can no longer excuse the lack of focus on my personal wellbeing with this narrative- a chunk of truth I digested gently.

After my first completed yoga session, I sat in my bedroom-tears in my eyes- not because I was so proud of myself (which I was) but more significantly because, I realized the true challenge was not on the mat, but in my mind. I began shifting my mindset to a place of ‘yes, I can’ – a place of self-care and priority. Of note, I have changed my (very early) morning routine to incorporate daily movement and awareness as a top priority of the day. From approximately 5-6:30AM, I dedicate to me.

As I navigate personal wellness and daily habits, I will continue to share moments where movement impacted my day. I will also be sharing with you more details regarding my 5AM morning routine in the coming weeks.

After I documented the Move– Yoga with Adrienne challenge back in January on my Instagram Stories (you can find it saved in the ‘My Journey’ highlight), I received many DMs from new friends following me who had done the challenges and loved her channel- it truly is an incredibly supportive community.

โœง  It is mid-January, friendsโ€ฆ and we are taking note of all that โ€™feels goodโ€™ to us and has personal meaning.

โœง As a community, in 2022 we accomplished quite a bit. From launching new businesses to potty-training toddlers to starting a yoga practice! We worked hard to meet some of our professional and personal goalsโ€” the big ones and the little ones that held meaning and brought joy to our day. 
 
โœง Small personal wins (often forgotten) should be noted and celebrated. ๐Ÿ”… Sadly, it is challenging to pinpoint or recall dates or details at the end of the year unless we have kept track of them in a journal, etc. 
 
โœง โ€™Mini-triumphs 2023' was a simple and quick solutionโ€” we created a minimal, list-style printable to track the wins as they happen. You can pin it on your fridge or bulletin board, keep it on your nightstand or desk to quickly jot down a reminder of an โ€˜I did itโ€™ moment!
